So, what will the future bring?

It occurs to me that the future of Minecraft for Xbox 360 and running this 24/7 host depends on what the new console will bring. It all depends on the hardware capabilities and 4JStudios (and I would like to hope Mojangs') plans with it. Will they continue to simply have Minecraft on the 360 and the Infinity/720/Durango/etc. without any changes or differences?

Some people are speculating that they will discontinue Minecraft for 360, but that is silly since they already have plans to release a retail disc version for 360, which though originally planned for April 30th is now scheduled for release on June 4th for the US and June 28th in the UK. It isn't like they will discontinue server support since there never was any. It would be really awkward for Microsoft to pull an arcade game from the market that wasn't from the indie market and that costs A LOT more than 80 MS/$1. It isn't uncommon for a title/product to have a cheaper/lite version for smaller/older platforms and a full version on newer/more powerful platforms.

My theory, or my plan if I was running 4J Studios, would be to have Minecraft stay the same between 360 and Infinity BUT to have an option for, say, a larger/infdev seed on Infinity. Maybe have 360 and Infinity multiplayer but only on vanilla minecraft whereas on Infinity, you could play Tekkit or Hack/Mine and vanilla minecraft, but with the better hardware, be able to have more players and a larger world. Still gives players an incentive to upgrade but doesn't alienate them just because they can't afford it.

Guess we will have to wait and see what happens May 21st...
